Engle died serving his country and should be remembered hero forever. He was a great person his whole life and treated everyone great. There was nothing he didn't do well from being the best athlete and being a pilot in WW2. He wrote a note back home to his family that he would soon get "wings". He was killed trying to get others to safety and that represents the type of person he was his whole life. He passed away June 6th 1944, also known as "D-Day". He was awarded the Purple Heart for being killed in action.
